Zoey's Broken Leg

Hasn't slowed her down, LOL!
This was when she still had the cast.
Now she has a brace instead.

I like how she tries to get her camera-shy daddy
to dance along with her.
But I LOVE how she sits down at the end.
Sometimes Nannie sounds like that when SHE sits down, Zoey!

ARGHHHH

Let's see, why have I been gone so long AGAIN?!
1) School started and we have a total of 51 kids
I'm going to say....think of spending all day, every day with a five year old.
Now multiply that by 51 and teach them all to read, write and do math. Yeah.
51 of anything is a LOT. Especially when they are all live and wiggly.
 2) We were in SC for a WHOLE WEEK, meeting baby Vera.
Some of the people I love best in the world. Sort of left to right, if you don't count Rach's right foot and Travis' right arm.: Pop Pop, Travis, Vera (in papoose sling on Travis), Rachel, Avery, Zoey, Trevor. Not in pic: Sarah (taking pic), me (hiding from camera)

We got to see all our grands together...OMG, it was so much fun, even though poor Zoey broke her leg!!
This is her splint, because they would not cast her leg for a few days. It was stressful, because she was not supposed to stand on it. Tell THAT to a 2-year-old.
The day before the broken leg. I held  babyVera, aka "The Caterpillar", so much that my arms felt empty when we left. Very sad for me.
3) Speaking of breaking things: our dishwasher, our washer, our truck, our AC. EXPENSIVE and not a blast to replace and/or repair. Sorry, no fun pictures of money flying out the window.

4) Still working on my new WEBSITE! The web designer's husband BROKE HIS BACK, so we are on hold. (Geez, I hope she didn't "catch" the breaks from me!!) You'll see the site soon enough. It is going to be AWESOME, lotsa wonderful tutorials, that don't require an embroidery machine!

I will try to do better about posting. But honestly, I don't like to promise things I'm not sure I can deliver! Subscribe to my blog and you'll get updates, which might be better than checking back constantly. Google Reader is GREAT, BTW. Thanks to my friend Linda for that tip.

Thanks for stopping by! Off to a funeral service. Arghhhh

Where Have I Been?!

Big things have been happening around here.
You know about Vera being born.
I'm also back to school.
AND...drumroll...I'm working on
launching a brand-new business!!!!!
I will keep you posted on that front.
In the meantime, here's my classroom.
I'm co-teaching this year and really, really excited about it!
My lime green dots.

Kinda cheery.

Here We Go, Steelers, Here We GO!

My wonderful husband made that big lime green shelf for me.

The white folded thing behind the big cabinet is the wall between the classrooms.

My co-teacher's side of the room.

This is where we'll do calendar...on my co-teacher's side.

Her computers...

Math stuff.
Our assistant's area.
Does it look like a lot of work? It should, because it sure was. Here are some befores:
If you look carefully, you will see that this pile of junk had to be labeled THIS IS NOT TRASH.

Dismal.

Depressing.

Barren.
Cluttered and sad.
Even the dots can't help this mess. See the 3 dots I had to paint over, top right?
 Thanks for stopping by!

I'd Rather Swim...or Run...or ANYTHING

Maybe I'm just ignorant or naive, but it seems that in many sports, athletes can't totally crash and burn. Not like in gymnastics, anyway. They might not win, but they're not going to totally fail.

I mean, if you know for a fact that your swimming or running time is usually way faster than the rest of the field, then you're pretty well set. Short of sucking in a bunch of water or pulling a hamstring, you're gonna finish okay.

Not so with gymnastics. US Olympic vault specialist McKayla Maroney is widely known as the best in the world.

She usually does this

and gets reactions from jaded judges like this

Unfortunately, yesterday she did this

The NBC jinx commentator had JUST said something like,
"All she needs to do is land on her feet..."

Thanks, NBC.

Maroney STILL got the silver medal. She totally messed up her vault, landing on her rear end, and STILL was only about a tenth of a point behind the winner.

Crashing and burning in gymnastics...
few other sports can compare.

But What About Her Hair??

In a stunning performance,
Gabby Douglas took gold.

She was rock-solid with nerves of steel.

And all some people want to do is criticize her hair?!??

Are you kidding me??

Hair haters, can you do THIS?

When's the last time you ate breakfast doing THIS?

Yeah, NEVER.
CONGRATS, GABBY!!

I sure am wowed by your athleticism,
strength,
determination
and mental toughness!!

And I don't give a flying flip about your HAIR!

Not Even Remotely Wordless Wednesday - Way Back When

Way back when, I was a gymnast. I was good at what I was able to do, but by the time I got into it, I was old enough to realize that this is a great way to become paralyzed for life.

Anyway, I just wanted to congratulate our
US gold-medal-winning Olympic gymnasts.

U S A!! U S A!!!

Bite those medals, ladies!
LOL
GREAT JOB!!

Allbrands...BLECH...But in the Meantime...

I leave you with this nice picture of the top of our fridge.

This picture of Kirby (aka Mr. Katz) summarizes why I love cats.

They do what they want.
They go where they want.
They don't care if you think they look ridiculous.

They're HAPPY.

Allbrands Says...PLEASE WAIT

Okay, Allbrands, I'm waiting...kinda like the graphic below. The saga continues...
So yesterday, I got an email from
yet another person at Allbrands.

(TWO WEEKS after I informed them
that they'd sent me the wrong hoop.)

He said he'll forward my info
to yet ANOTHER person at Allbrands.

THAT person is supposed to email me a return form.

Then I can print it and mail the hoop back.

THEN they will send me the correct hoop.

*SIGH*

Imagine if it were MY mistake in the first place...

Our Dinner (Surreal) Guests

So yesterday, for some unknown reason, 7 ducks appeared in our cul-de-sac. ('Cul-de-sac' is Southern for 'dead-end street').

Suddenly, BAM, there they were!

I thought they looked kind of puzzled as to what to do next. And I also didn't like the chances of our crazy neighbor seeing them in time to slow down if he happened to come careening down the street.

So I went out by the mailbox and started making those smoochy noises at them, like you do when you call your dog. They must speak 'dog', because they followed me into our yard...

and right up to our walkway. My husband, whom I'd called to come see, ran inside the house and returned with some buns he'd thawed in the microwave. I tore off a few chunks of the buns and threw them onto our steps.

The 'head duck' came to check out the offerings. The crumbs must have met with his (her??) approval because pretty soon, they were all at the bottom of our steps.

The head duck and his (her) friend even ate bread right off the step! My husband and I made several more trips to the freezer/microwave to get more buns. The ducks ate till they must have been stuffed. They stood around looking full for about 15 minutes, then suddenly, seemingly with one mind, they all just whooshed into the air and took flight over the house.

I'm glad I was able to snap the pictures. It was the kind of thing where you almost feel like you dreamed it...
