OOPS!

No, it's not a mistake, it's the name of my latest creation...part of my "OOPS!" collection! I'll show you what I'm talking about in a second. First, the pic of the girly bib I told you about yesterday:
And now some Steelers flannel shaped burpies I made. In the interest of fairness, I made one for Zoey, too. Who says little girls can't be die hard Steelers fans!? I made Avery's with diamond topstitching to kind of match the "sparkles" in the Steelers logo and I made Zoey's with heart topstitching, just to soften it up a little. You might be able to see it if you click on the pic.
And now, for my OOPS! I'd wanted to use these cute stick figures playing sports and I got a sudden inspiration to do a visual pun. I think they're my favorite bibs so far! Let's not talk about how long they take to stitch out...they have like a million thread color changes. Here they are!
In the first one, you can see that the batter has hit a home run with both the ball and with Avery's name. Ideally, I could have flipped the batter so that he is batting lefty (like Avery's daddy), but I wanted to have the batter "hit" the last letters of Avery's name...not the first letters. Here's a closeup:
And in this one, Avery's name has been "stiff-armed" by the football player.
You may notice that the stick figure is wearing Steelers colors. I had no control over the jersey number...apparently, he is Dennis Dixon.
Not sure how much stiff-arming quarterbacks do, but there you have it.

That's it for today. I hope to have more to show you tomorrow night! For one thing, I do need to make burp cloths to match the OOPS bibs...
Thanks for stopping by!

Something Else from the Files

Again, with the 'not much to show you' today. We did take the dog on a two-mile walk on the nature trail. Then I came home and cut up 160 nickels and no, they are not five cent coins. Nickels are 5" squares of fabric. I'm in an online group that swaps pairs of nickels to get lots of variety for quilts and such. So I cut up my fabric into pairs of nickels and mailed them off. When they come back, I should have 80 pairs of different prints. All that cutting took me a while, and it wasn't picture-worthy.

So I went through my picture files again and came up with something I made a couple of years ago. If you've been reading this blog for a while, you may remember that the guys in our family are all Steelers fans. I wrote a post about the Terrible Towels I made for our older son's wedding. I must have been in a pretty Steeler-y mood myself when I whipped this up for our younger son's wife:

I think it's kind of funny how the "rear end" of the purse still looks 'occupied', LOL.

And the REALLY funny part is that people are selling this kind of purse (minus the Steelers fabric and pom-pom fringe) on Etsy. The purses are called, accurately enough, Butt Bags. Now THAT is funny!
And finally, I saw this today on Kim's Big Quilting Adventure and thought it was just hilarious. I hope you like it, and thanks for stopping by!

And Now For Something Completely Different...

I spent the day sewing a really cute rickrack bib and monogrammed burpie for a customer and did not have enough sense to take a picture before I sent them off! So I thought I would show you some things that I made for our older son's/his wife's wedding.

We are originally from Pittsburgh, in case you haven't figured that out by looking at the "faux Terrible Towels" in the picture to the left. Our son had the idea of having their wedding guests wave the towels (instead of throwing bird seed or rice) when he and his wife walked out of the church together.

Unfortunately, even for the least expensive Terrible Towels we could find online, it would have cost an ABSOLUTE FORTUNE to buy enough for every guest to get one. Mom to the rescue...I bought white hotel hand towels online, washed/dried them to fluff them up, dyed them a combination of orange and yellow and hand-stenciled their "logo" (team E, since that's the initial of our last name) on every single one. The picture shows our kitchen, which looked like a faux Terrible Towel factory!
Since the groom's side is responsible for the rehearsal dinner, I decided to carry through with the theme and created these little flags to go in the centers of the tables. I made enough for every person at the rehearsal dinner to get one.

And I'll leave you with a picture of my classroom, where a couple of the leftovers hang to remind me of that special day! Hmmm, that faux towel does not look all that great hanging under the REAL Terrible Towel, LOL!
Don't forget to check back tomorrow, when I'll be posting my second Fun Day Sunday activity. Here's a hint...there's a book and an activity again, but this time, instead of cute ladybugs, the book's main character is something a little more slithery. After all, I can't forget to choose something for the BOYS!
