Superman Returns

I don't know if you've been following
the Casey Anthony trial.
I have and I'm convinced she killed
her little girl, Caylee.

It's my opinion that Casey chloroformed the little girl so she could go out clubbing. Actually, I have a whole theory, but I'll spare you.

Anyway, I thought you might need that much background to understand why I think this picture (Photoshopped, of course) of Caylee being held by prosecutor Jeff Ashton is so awesome...He truly is Caylee's Superman.

I Must Be Really Weird

The other day, someone asked me if I will be spend some time relaxing this summer. I'm sure I didn't look like the brightest bulb, because I gaped at her for a few seconds before gathering my wits to answer. That's because I was trying to figure out HOW to answer her question.

I'm sure she pictured me relaxing like this:Or like this:Or even this:
After all, that IS how most people relax.
So why, when I answered, "YES!", was I picturing THIS?!??:
And THIS??!??:
What about YOU? How do YOU relax??

When I Grow Up

Is it too late to decide what I want to be when I grow up?
It occurred to me that I could be having a LOT of fun if I had done the graphic design thing, as I'd considered way back when.

Having fun and making money.

However, at that time, I was limited by the fact that I'm not artistic.
I can't draw.
Period.

Now, however, with the advent of Photoshop...
you don't really have to be able to draw.
Photoshop can do miracles.

So...what do YOU want to be when you grow up?

So PROUD!!

Sometimes, if we're lucky,
someone great comes into our lives.
Sometimes it happens when you least expect it.
Who knew that all those years ago,
a little kindergarten boy who
appeared on my class roll
would lead to a beautiful friendship?!

Our friends Darlene and Ernie are like the siblings I never had.
They are closer to our sons
than our own family is.

Well, that kindergartner is all grown up now.
And so is his little sister.
They both graduated with honors from
Ohio State University.
And the little boy is getting his Masters, so that
he can have a classroom of his own one day!

Congrats, Alysia and Taylor!!
Love ya, Darlene and Ernie!!!

Birdie Update, Part 4

If you would like to read my previous posts on this subject,
here are Part One, Part Two and Part Three
The fan is still running 24/7 to bank air flow into the nest. The pillow on top of the red flip chair (there is a picture in the post entitled You May Be RIGHT! post) is decidedly LESS white than it was. Ewwwww! I can tell you I'm NOT washing that stuff off in my washing machine!

Now, on to the GOOD NEWS!!!
(This picture is NOT our nest...but it sorta looks like it.)As of yesterday, NO ONE has fallen or been pushed from the nest!! There seem to be THREE healthy baby birds crammed into the nest, kinda like the picture above!! They have feathers and just look pretty jammed in there.

Momma Bird seems to be spending a lot of time perched nearby,
chirping encouragingly.

Maybe it's almost time for the babies to test their wings??!??

Hopefully, it won't come down to THIS!!
Wow, this is stressing me out!!!! I'll keep you posted!

Old Fashioned Customer Service - HUGE SHOUTOUT!

Happy cat dancing...
Happy cat dancing...

Happy cat dancing...

WHY??
Price range from Geek Squad to fix our Ethernet issues:
Minimum $129.99
Maximum $299.99
YES, $299.99 (do they think I don't realize that's actually $300?!) and they can't give you a quote till they open the computer. Obviously, then it's too late!

Do you sometimes feel like you're living in a weird dream??
I was at Jo-Ann Fabrics last night, buying a bolster pillow form so that I could HAND SEW a bolster pillow for my boss/principal (don't ask). I spend a lot of money time there and the cashiers are all pretty friendly, so I took that opportunity to whine about my Ethernet predicament. A customer back farther in line piped up with, "I know someone who's good with computers!"
Turns out, THESE PEOPLE are practically in our backyard!
Get this...they are ROCKET SCIENTISTS, LOL!

Soooo...we are back online. The Neighborhood Computer Store (their real name) had to send someone to buy a part, since their shipment won't be there till Monday. The guy only charged us for HALF an hour's work, when their sign clearly says, "One Hour Minimum Charge". (He said, "Not for stuff like replacing one part...we only charge half an hour for that.")

Total cost, including the $20 part: $56.00.
Being back online: PRICELESS
If you leave near the Tidewater area of Virginia and you need a computer fixed, go there!

PLUS, TODAY WAS THE LAST DAY OF SCHOOL!!!!!!!!!!!! YA-HOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!
HAPPY HAPPY HAPPY

NO INTERNET SERVICE

Hi, we had a terrible storm on Sunday and it fried something that they can't seem to fix, so we have no Internet service. Earliest estimate of being back onine is Monday, June 20. If you need to contact me, use Etsy conversations. I'm typing this from school and the filter won't let us check yahoo or cox email accounts. AGGRAVATING. 3+ hours on the phone with Tier 1 and Tier 2 of Cox Communications, trying to fix it. We've already bought a new Ethernet cable and also a modem that has its own Etheret cable, plus a usb cable. NOTHING is working!

Ta DA!!

I just sewed the last stitch on the commissioned t-shirt quilt I've been working on. I had my husband hold it so I could snap a quick pic - if it looks like it's pulling/wrinkled/not straight... believe me, the fault lies with the holder and not the quilt.

This is part of a graduation gift for the son of a friend. I'm so excited to be able to deliver it to his proud mom tomorrow! I quilted the name of his high school in one block, and the year of the tournament that the t-shirt represents in another. And NO, it does not really say Soggy Bottoms Baby Duds in the top border, LOL.

I think the mom will LOVE it. And you know how teenage boys are...he probably will give it a cursory glance and not give it another thought...till much later in his life...

Thanks for stopping by!

See, I TOLD You!

I knew it would end badly with the birds.
Again, if you missed the earlier posts, they are HERE and HERE.

At least, it does not look good at this point. We think that one of the three babies is definitely dead and the other two look pretty bad. It's really sad...as of Wednesday, they were perky and chirping. The bird experts had warned that even if the other babies were not shoved out of the nest, the babies may still not survive because the poor momma bird is pushed to the limit with trying to feed ravenous babies that aren't even hers.

That, plus the fact that it has been ridiculously hot (upper 90s) all week. The nest is built high on the porch - a safe location, but it gets almost zero air flow. The heat has been so overpowering that it didn't even seem like there were many bugs around for the momma bird to bring to the babies.

So the latest is...we rigged up a fan that is continuously blowing air toward the porch ceiling, so it can bank into the nest. And I've been up there misting around with a water bottle...not directly into the nest, of course.

We're doing all we can. And momma bird is putting up with us. She was on the nest when we came home from the grocery store just now...

WHY MUST I ALWAYS HAVE ANIMAL TRAUMA!?

You May Be RIGHT!

Remember that old Billy Joel song (okay, I'm showing my age) with lyrics that went,
"You may be RIGHT!
I may be crazy.
But it just might be a lunatic you're looking forrrrr..."

I think I really may be crazy. You might agree, once you scroll down and see the setup I've rigged up on our front porch.

Anyway, I'll just post two pics I snapped in my attempt to update the kind people from a couple of the bird groups I contacted. If you have no earthly idea what I'm talking about, GO READ THIS POST and I'll wait.

So, the nice bird experts that I emailed confirmed my worst fears...they concur that these larger babies MIGHT shove the smaller babies out of the nest. Hence, the bizarre setup I rigged up, below. I just could not stand the thought of those fragile babies getting shoved out of the nest on top of the light fixture and splatting on the porch. So here is a cushion sitting on a junk-picked flip chair (I have no pride). The cushion will break their fall. AND THEN WHAT?! I have no idea.

And here is a pic I snapped down into the nest, while standing on that bench. They are cute. There are 2 large ones (who hatched first) and from one I can tell, only 1 of the 3 smaller eggs has hatched...
Stay tuned. I'll keep you posted!

Progress

Popping in to say that I'm making progress on the t-shirt quilt. This mom has saved her son's sports t-shirts (almost exclusively baseball) since he was little...what a wonderful keepsake this will be for him!

For those of you who quilt, I'm sewing it in the 'quilt as you go' method, which I've never done before. For a couple of reasons, I now look like this:
For one thing, of course, I made it WAY harder than it needs to be...the seam allowances are 1/4" (although the tutorial I'm following said to make them HALF an inch)... and the difference between the front and back sashing is less than 1/8" (although it should be more like HALF an inch)!

PLUS, the customer wanted BLACK solid sashing. It is HARD to sew with that minute accuracy on BLACK fabric!

Today, I should be able to at least finish getting the center together and, if so, I'll try to snap a pic...that is, if I can focus my eyes enough to tell what's in the viewfinder!

AND we're supposed to webcam with both grandbabies!!
They're too little to realize Nannie should not look so squinty. YAY!!!!!

Don't You Just Love It

Great pic, eh? Hope you don't have a weak stomach. Or have at least had your coffee.

Don't you just love it when you call the doctor's office to say that you have a sinus infection and would like a prescription for an antibiotic to be called in and they say NO, because they have to SEE you?? I was JUST THERE about 3 weeks ago for something else, and I'm also there every 6 months so they can check my blood work because of my meds. And you don't have to be a rocket scientist to tell when you have a sinus infection. But NO, I might be trying to get high on antibiotics, I guess.

So Thursday, I left school early, waited in the doctor's office for 45 minutes, had the NP say, "Yep, sinus infection." and then waited for over half an hour at the pharmacy, just to get the antibiotics I'd asked for in the first place.

One good thing...the NP turned me on to the wonders of saline nasal spray. OMG has THAT made a difference!!! Well, that and the ANTIBIOTICS!!!!!! LOL

Starting to feel a little more perky, although I slept another 11 hours last night. Good thing, because I'm supposed to be working on a t-shirt quilt that's due to the customer in no longer than 12 days, since her son graduates on the 17th!!

Thanks for visiting!

ZOEY IS WALKING!!!!!!!!!!!

OMG!!! She took her first steps yesterday. She is 9 months old!!!!!!!!
I do not have pics or a video yet to share, but I did want to share this pic:

Let me just say...if you are the mother of sons, then one of your main concerns needs to be that they marry NICE girls. By this, I mean kind, considerate girls who value family...and not just their OWN family!
Thankfully, our boys did (despite dating some scary girls along the way, LOL).

So anyway, that is Zoey's cousin Avery, congratulating her on walking!! I'm not sure, but I somehow don't think he printed that little sign by himself.

We LOVE our daughters-in-law!! Good choices, boys!!!

Thanks, Rach!! Congrats, Sarah!!

And YAYYYY Zoey!!
